Denbigh Junior Winter Series 2015 – part 1

A couple of weeks ago a group of us junior glider pilots from around the country gathered in the wet, cold and windy fields of North Wales to fly gliders.  We had a great time and some good photos were taken.

Now, us all being young and not very sensible we thought it would be a good idea to set up a small target on the airfield (a table-cloth) and take it in turns to fly low over the field and try to drop home-made flour bombs on the target!  This of course meant that things like this happened…

Brand new ASH31!

One of our lucky club members purchased a brand new ASH31 Mi, one of the latest gliders produced by the Alexander Schleicher company.  This was only its second ever flight and the first by the new owner.

Everyone at the club is very jealous!

Ash25 eb28 binder

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time to take photos of the binder taking off and landing.  It was the first time I’d been at the club with the correct lens when it was flying!  Here are my best photos.  Some of them especially really show just how long those wings are.  Stunning.

RIAT 2014 part 1

Last weekend I went to the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford and took nearly 3,000 photos during the course of the day.  Eventually I narrowed this down to less than 100 good photos that I am slowly editing.  Here is my first batch of edited photos from RIAT 2014.  Hope you enjoy.

First single seater K23 flight

As usual it was a cloudy day at the London Gliding Club but it was still flyable, just.  After a check flight I was cleared to have my first flight in a single seater glider, the K23.

Here is my video of the flight, including a slightly scary landing at the same time as a motor glider!
